Explain Everything EDu
Explain Everything (https://explaineverything.com/ free) is a whiteboard app. As a whiteboard app, you and/or students can draw directly on the screen using the provided tools, add and manipulate images (size, orientation, location, etc.), and use pointers, all while recording a voice over and their movements on the screen. We chose Explain Everything because it has a range of tools and simple steps for saving and exporting.
There are many similar apps, so it's all based on cost and preference. EduCreation (https://www.educreations.com/ free) ShowMe (https://www.showme.com/ free)
Uses
- Students explaining their work with visuals (photos, animations, drawings), text, and audio (voiceovers, recorded sound effects)
- Teachers creating videos for “flipped classroom” lessons
Perks
- High motivation
- A centralized platform where videos are stored and shared easily
- Students create independent works that can be reviewed and graded later
- Lots of templates
- Huge potential
Disadvantages
- Students are tied to specific iPads/devices until their project is finished
- No collaborations across multiple devices
- Once saved locally on the iPad camera roll, it must be airdropped, sent, or uploaded to be shared
SAMR: Transformation
This app created the space to have a more 1:1 experience between students and teachers, especially for students who like to share with work with teachers or need validation on their work. These videos can also provide space for students to share their work with other students without a formal or whole-class setup.
